  The Clark County Heritage Center in downtown Springfield, Ohio, 117 South Fountain Ave., will host the  African American Genealogy Group of the Miami Valley (AAGGMV) in the Discovery Room of Crabill Hall on 25 February 2006.

Activities for the day include displays of AA Genealogy provided by the membership of AAGGMV. The displays will be available for viewing from 10:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

The Program ...
  • 12:30 - 1:00 p.m. - Introduction & Welcome
  • 1:00 p.m. - Presentation "Researching Free Persons of  Color,  1600-1865: Who, Where & When"
  • 3:00 - 3:30 p.m. - Business Meeting
  • 3;30 - 4:30 p.m. - Fellowship
     

The Heritage Center is open from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Self-paced tours of the Museum are available during these hours.

A Gift Shop and the Java House Coffee Shop are located within the Center.

The Museum Tours and the AAGGMV Program are free of charge and open to the public.
 
Please come and bring a guest.

NOTE: The Heritage Center is located across the street from the Courtyard by Marriott and the Clark County Public Library

         Plenty of free parking at the Heritage Center.

Black genealogy group meeting...

The next meeting of the African American Genealogy Group of the Miami Valley (AAGGMV) will be held Saturday, February 25,2006, 1:00 p.m. at the Clark County Heritage Center, 117 South Fountain Ave, Springfield, OH. in the Discovery Room of Crabill Hall.

The featured speaker will be Mr. Arthur Thomas, an AAGGMV founder and a well-known family historian and genealogist-lecturer in the Miami Valley, whose topic will be: “Researching Free Persons of Color: 1600-1865.

Mr Thomas is a member of the following organizations: Clark County Genealogical Society, the Champaign County Genealogical Society, The Ohio Genealogical Society, and The Friends of Freedom Society (Ohio Underground Railroad Association). He was recently inducted into the Ohio Genealogical Society’s First Families of Ohio, and their Society of Civil War Families of Ohio. Mr Thomas is, in addition, a member of The First Families of Champaign County. He is a highly-sought-after genealogy speaker throughout the state, having traced and documented his African-American ancestors back more than two hundred sixty years
